Hi, I’m Jose (they/them).  I have been sharing my passion for hair at Retreat since 2020, helping people look and feel their best. One of my favorite parts of working as  a stylist is being  able to use art to make people confident and happy.  I love how sociable and personal my work is and I am very grateful to have found a career that allows me to express myself.

I have been in the industry for almost 10 years.  With that experience, I have learned to consider factors such as facial structure, natural hair textures and patterns to create natural, personalized and beautiful looks. I work with all hair types and lengths.  I regularly attend immersive continued education classes to keep up to date with the ever-changing trends and latest advancements in techniques and processes. I love learning!

What I’m often told is a standout part of being in my chair is my ability to listen and check-in throughout the entirety of your visit with me as I create your vision. My kind and calm demeanor allows people to relax and trust in the process.  I work quietly, taking great pride in paying close attention to the unique and meticulous details of each head of hair to achieve beautiful results. I am deeply invested in your happiness with the service I provide.

I was born and raised in Guanajuato Mexico and immigrated with my family to California at the age of fifteen. I am very grateful to have obtained US citizenship. From a very young age I was interested in the world of beauty and fashion.  I remember watching movies from the golden age of Mexican cinema, noticing the way they dressed, their make up, and especially their hair, which absolutely inspired my career choice.  People who know me, know that I love movies (all genres - classic, foreign and current).  I have a membership to an indie film house and I’m ready to give you my movie review at your next visit! 

I consider myself an open and adventurous person, always curious about discovering new music, art, cultures, and activities. I love being outside in nature, and enjoy : hiking, running, yoga and swimming, most of which I can do year round living in the Bay Area!  As a vegan I am passionate about the environment and offer my guests organic, cruelty-free and environmentally conscious products.
